Vocabulary for Poetry Unit
Form- the structure of the writing. Lines - poems are broken up into lines, one single line of text that is not necessarily a complete thought or complete sentence. Stanzas - groups of lines within a poem that are separated from other lines. Speaker - a voice that ‘talks’ to the reader, similar to the narrator of a story. Traditional Poem - a poem that adheres to a definite verse structure or set of characteristics such as rhythm, rhyme, specific stanza length, etc. Free Verse Poem -poetry that is free from limitations of regular meter or rhythm, and does not rhyme with fixed forms. Such poems are without rhythm and rhyme schemes, do not follow regular rhyme scheme rules, yet still provide artistic expression.
